About Dr. Felix Pumarola
Pediatric Surgeon,
ENT Specialist and Expert in Head & Neck Surgery
After completing my residency training at Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona under the supervision of Prof. Pedro Quesada Marín, I began my journey in otorhinolaryngology at the Comarcal Hospital of Sant Llorenç de Viladecans, where I worked for one year. Since March 1990, I have held the position of Paediatric ENT Specialist at Vall d’Hebron, dedicating 34 years to paediatrics in this leading hospital, which has allowed me to gain significant experience in the field of paediatric otorhinolaryngology.
Furthermore, my affiliation with the Autonomous University of Barcelona has enhanced my passion for teaching, instructing students in the subjects of Otorhinolaryngology in Medicine as well as at the Faculty of Speech Therapy. At Vall d’Hebron Hospital, I have had the privilege of training residents not only from our hospital but also from other parts of Spain and abroad, with students all over the world.
In the realm of scientific societies, I served as president of the Paediatric ENT Commission of the Spanish Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Cervicofacial Surgery, representing Spain in the ESPO (European Society of Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology) for at least eight consecutive years. During this time, we successfully organised the only ESPO congress held in Spain. My involvement in the Council of the European Society allowed me to participate in numerous round tables and symposiums.
Another notable aspect of my career has been my participation in clinical trials, resulting in publications with a significant impact factor. My research interests have included otitis media and vaccination. Thanks to the fetal surgery programme at Vall d’Hebron Hospital, we have tackled advanced challenges in paediatric surgery, such as performing surgery on unborn patients. Our multidisciplinary team excels in reconstructive laryngeal surgery in children, diagnosing and treating patients with malformations, diseases, or airway trauma, especially those associated with syndromes or tracheostomy.
I look forward to continuing to contribute my experience in paediatric ENT in the coming years.
